WATER BRAIN /POETIC SIGNAL

Poetic Signal is an abstract poetic form where sound, image, and language function as equal signals within a unified perceptual field.

MANIFESTO

Poetic Signal is a field where sound, image, and language exist as equal signals.

No medium illustrates another. No element dominates the whole.

Sound is not accompaniment. Image is not decoration. Language is not narration.

Meaning emerges through resonance, not explanation.

Inspired by the brevity of haiku, Poetic Signal expands poetry into a multisensory experience unfolding in time.

ABOUT

Water Brain is a Brooklyn-based collaborative project founded by bassist and composer Fumio Tashiro and visual artist Miho Morita.

The project explores the intersection of sound, moving image, and poetic language — creating immersive audiovisual environments rooted in deep listening, abstraction, and the rhythms of urban and natural spaces.

At its center is Poetic Signal: a practice in which sound, image, and language operate as equal signals within a unified perceptual field, dissolving the boundaries between hearing, seeing, and reading.

PROCESS

Poetic Signal begins with a single visual image.

The image is analyzed for color, luminance, and gradient — and translated into musical structure. From the same source, derived visual elements are generated. Poetic text is introduced as a third signal, synchronized with sound as a typographic layer.

Sound, image, and language emerge from a shared origin and are recomposed into a unified audiovisual work.

Structural Principle

The underlying principle of Poetic Signal lies in the transformation and reintegration of signals.

A single visual source generates multiple forms of expression: visual information becomes musical structure, the same visual source produces derived imagery, language is synchronized with sound as a visual signal.

Through this process, sound, image, and language coexist within a unified perceptual field.

Poetic Signal is therefore neither simply music nor video nor text. It is a poetic media form composed of interacting perceptual signals.
