Poetic Signal is an abstract poetic form in which sound, image, and language operate as equal signals within a single perceptual field.

soft tremors ripple through dusk,
eternity blinks.

Empty room of eyes
her silent plea fades away—
kindness turned to ash

Carousel spins on,
childhood laughter drifts through cracks,
time dissolves in rings.

Silent seeds unseal,
spilling tiny worlds of dusk—
shadows learn to dream.

Silent orchard hums,
visages bloom on bare branches,
time harvests their eyes.

Mother's steady gaze
claws at dusk fawns slip through light
love becomes her shield

Half-formed shadows sway

Refusing the fold,
shadows bend without my hand

No medium illustrates another. No element dominates the whole.
Sound is not accompaniment. Image is not decoration. Language is not narration.
Meaning emerges through resonance, not explanation.
Inspired by the brevity of haiku, Poetic Signal expands poetry into a multisensory experience unfolding in time.
ABOUT
Water Brain is a Brooklyn-based collaborative project founded by bassist and composer Fumio Tashiro and visual artist Miho Morita.
Working at the intersection of sound, moving image, and poetic language, the project builds immersive audiovisual environments rooted in deep listening, abstraction, and the rhythms of urban and natural spaces.
At its center is Poetic Signal — a practice that dissolves the boundaries between hearing, seeing, and reading.
PROCESS
Poetic Signal begins with a single image.
Its color, luminance, and gradient are analyzed and translated into musical structure. Derived visual elements emerge from the same source. Poetic text enters as a third signal, synchronized with sound as a typographic layer.
Born from one origin, sound, image, and language recompose into a single audiovisual work: visual information becomes music, images generate further images, and language becomes a visual signal in time. The result is neither music, video, nor text alone — it is a poetic media form built from interacting signals.
